Holt Science and Math Products Honored as Finalists in the SIIA Codie Awards

AUSTIN, Texas — March 24, 2008 — Two curriculum products from Holt McDougal (www.holtmcdougal.com) were named as finalists in the 2008 SIIA Codie Awards and now join the list of dozens of awards received by this leading secondary education publisher. The honored products are Holt Mathematics Online Editions and Holt Science Dissection Labs CD-ROM in the categories for Best K−12 Instructional Solution and Best Education Simulation or Game, respectively.

The Lesson Tutorial Videos — which are included in the Online Editions along with formative assessments, manipulatives, and intervention resources — won an Award of Excellence in the 25th annual program managed by Technology & Learning magazine. The Lesson Tutorial Videos also won a 2007 Distinguished Achievement Award for mathematics products from the Association of Educational Publishers.

Holt Science Dissection Labs CD-ROM is a virtual lab experience of six lifelike specimen dissections, which gives schools an alternative method for teaching anatomy and physiology. Students begin a lab with a high-resolution image of a frog, for example, and use their mouse to select the appropriate instrument to perform up to 30 procedures such as peeling back skin and removing organs, all with amazing clarity. Additional video clips describe and show the function of organs, systems, and body parts. The Dissection CD even offers assessment options; students may be automatically graded on their dissection skills or take an interactive quiz.
