Two Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children's Authors Receive Awards from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America
BOSTON — May 6, 2009 — Global publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt proudly congratulates its authors Ursula K. LeGuin and Ysabeau S. Wilce on winning the distinguished Nebula and Andre Norton awards from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA).
LeGuin fetched the Nebula Award for Best Novel for her latest work, Powers. The award, given annually, celebrates excellence in science fiction and fantasy writing. Wilce received the Andre Norton Award for Outstanding Young Adult Science Fiction or Fantasy Book for her novel Flora's Dare. This annual award, whose previous winners include J.K. Rowling, is named for the prolific twentieth-century science fiction and fantasy author.
The SWFA, founded in 1965, is a nonprofit organization of more than 1,500 speculative authors, artists, editors and allied professionals within the science fiction, fantasy and related genres. Past and present members of the association include Isaac Asimov, Anne McCaffrey and Ray Bradbury.
"We are thrilled to publish such talented writers whose works continue to receive special recognition," said Gary Gentel, president of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Trade and Reference Publishers.
LeGuin has won five Nebula Awards over the last 35 years in the Best Novel, Best Short Story and Best Novelette categories. Wilce's prequel to Flora's Dare, Flora Segunda, was also nominated for an Andre Norton Award.
