Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Donates 15,000 Books to Cleveland Metropolitan School District
BOSTON — May 8, 2009 — Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt joins the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) in promoting literacy and achievement. The Company donated 15,000 new young adult and children's books of assorted genres, including reference guides, cookbooks, dictionaries, fiction and nonfiction titles, which will be distributed at the CMSD Family Community and Empowerment Conference later this month.
"It is a privilege to provide valuable learning materials to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District," said Mike Lavelle, K–12 President, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. "By extending resources beyond the classroom and into the community, we not only promote literacy but also help foster a lifelong love of reading."
"Educating our students in the areas of literacy and reading is of primary importance and generous donations such as these provide our students even more access to educational and engaging reading material," said Dr. Eugene Sanders, chief executive officer of the district. "Good corporate citizens like Houghton Mifflin Harcourt help our efforts by promoting literacy within our community."
The conference will take place on Friday, May 22, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 23, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Cleveland Convention Center in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.
