Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Offers $10,000 Scholarship to Aspiring Latino Education Leaders
ALAS/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Scholarship deadline is September 1, 2009
BOSTON— May 14, 2009 — Together with the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS), global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt supports the advancement of educational leadership through the ALAS/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Scholarship.
Since its inception in 2006, the scholarship has annually provided Latino educators seeking to become administrators and superintendents with a one-time $10,000 award. Additionally, the scholarship offers a one-time $2,000 honorable mention award each year.
Past recipients of the $10,000 scholarship include:
- Ysidiro Salazar, chief middle school improvement officer, San Diego Unified School District
- Charles Hernandez, assistant principal, New York City Public Schools
- Elizabeth J. Blanco, director of special education for the Rowland Unified School District in California
- Anthony Chavez, principal, Dallas Independent School District
